REPLACING OUTDATED RESTORATIONS (FILLINGS)
WHY REPAIR OLD FILLINGS
WEAR - The life of a restoration may last form five to 15 years depending upon many contributing factors. Grinding and clenching can place excessive force on fillings causing them to wear.
ESTHETICS - Some patients may elect to replace old tarnished silver fillings for new tooth colored restorations to improve their overall smile.
PERIODONTAL (GUM) DISEASE - In severe cases if a tooth is lost, a crown or bridge may be recommended.
CRACKS OR LEAKS - Excessive force from hard substances and regular wear can cause a crack or leak in a filling allowing decay underneath.
CHIPS - Cracks and leaks can become chips if not fixed allowing decay to reenter the tooth.
SECONDARY OR RECURRING DECAY - forms underneath and around existing fillings if not kept properly cleaned.
